You read the title correctly. The Mozilla Foundation has just today released Thunderbird 1.0. Mozilla's email client features a whole bunch of nice features, and just like FireFox, should be looked at seriously as an alternative to your current internet applications.
I personally have used FireFox and Thunderbird since I switched to Linux, and I can't express how happy I am with both of them. I have not yet tried out Thunderbird 1.0, but if its anything better than .83, I don't think I'll be disappointed.
Whats even better, theres a Windows, Linux, and MacOS port of the software. I highly suggest you test it out. I'm not sure about Thunderbird, but when switching from Internet Explorer to FireFox (in Windows), FireFox would import all your settings, bookmarks, etc. Maybe Thunderbird does the same to Outlook? Anyone want to try it and let me know? Even better, try it and write a short article on how easy it is to switch from Outlook to Thunderbird?
If you would like to read more about the new Features in Thunderbird, or if you want to Download Thunderbird 1.0, click one of those links.
