LokiTorrent Owner Fined $1 Million

Following up the recent report that popular BitTorrent tracker website LokiTorrent.com was taken down by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) , its owner, Edward Webber, has been fined $1 Million in a judgment issued by a Dallas court. Not only has LokiTorrent.com been taken down for good, but the MPAA has replaced the homepage of the site with its own anti-piracy page. On top of the fine, the court has ordered that the former website owners expose IP address records so the MPAA and investigators can hunt down movie pirates.

It should be clear that it is not the BitTorrent client that is illegal, but the way it is used. Blizzard Entertainment is an example of legal BitTorrent use. They have utilized a BitTorrent-like client to more efficiently distribute patches for their latest MMORPG, World of Warcraft.
