Posted :: Feb 26, 2005 by Haggs

With the upcoming release of 512MB GPUs, gamers will finally be able to experience Doom 3 with fully uncompressed textures. Before the release of these new cards, the 512MB requirement was only achievable using two 256MB video cards on an SLI motherboard.

ATI has confirmed that it will be showing off the first 512MB graphics card this weekend at the Texas Gaming Festival in Dallas, Texas. Festival attendees will be privileged with the opportunity to preview this new card. The new card has been confirmed to be the R520 which ATI will be naming the X950XT. However, the rumored R520 specifications are still unconfirmed.

In response to ATI's move, well known graphics card maker, Gainward, revealed their plans to produce a 512MB nVidia Geforce 6800 Ultra card. Gainward is expected to showcase the card at the German SnoBit convention on March 10th.
