Beck's new album, Guero, is unique in one way from his other cds. It's not unique. Guero sounds like his album Odelay (1996). Everytime Beck produces a new CD it sounds totally different from the last one, with this new release being the exception.
Saying that it sounds like Odelay, while that sounds like a complaint, is the biggest compliment I can think of. Odelay is widely credited as Beck's magnum opus, and Guero's following in it's footsteps is a fan's dream come true. Re-teaming with The Dust Brothers (Odelay, Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique, Fight Club Soundtrack) and guest featuring a number of different artists add to the draw of this album. Jack White co-wrote and played bass on a song, a Beastie Boys sample is featured prominently in the first single from the album, and Boards of Canada are featured as remix artists in the deluxe version of the album as well as Royksopp and Dizzee Rascal.
If you like Beck - buy this album. If you don't like Beck, then you just haven't heard enough.
