Tom's Hardware spent some time getting to know Intel's Pentium M 770 mobile chip. Mobile chips are designed with temperature and power efficiency in mind so that they can perform well using the laptop's battery without draining it too rapidly. Consequently, Tom's Hardware used an adapter to plug the Intel Pentium M 770 into an ASUS desktop motherboard and overclocked it to the moon. They discovered that in many applications, but primarily gaming, the configuration was able to significantly outperform the current desktop processor leaders such as Intel's Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (EE) line as well as AMD's FX line. This will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the way desktop processors are designed. Kudos to Tom's Hardware for their discovery. The complete article contents can be found here.
