Battlefield 2 Goes Gold
Posted :: Jun 2, 2005 by Haggs

EA Games, the creator of the award winning first person shooter (FPS), Battlefield, has recently announced that the sequel has officially gone gold. When software goes gold it means that all programming is complete and the master copy of the software is ready for production. The much anticipated Battlefield 2 will begin shipping to stores on Tuesday, June 21, 2005.

Battlefield 2 will offer an updated graphics engine (which will be able to push the limits of today's top of the line), three armies to choose from (United States, China, and Middle East Coalition). Players will have access to modern weaponry, and over 30 player controlled vehicles. The new game also contains a single player campaign as well as multiplayer support for up to 64 players.

EA Games has taken the next step to enhance squad based combat and organization during online play. Players find themselves assembled into squads and report to squad leaders and so on, up the chain of command. EA has also set up an online ranking system that will allow players to increase in rank while unlocking hidden goodies.
