According to a Sunday report in Hollywood Reporter, the world's number one retailer, Wal-Mart, was planning to discontinue selling VHS tapes by early 2006. However, this morning Karen Burk, the spokeswomen for Wal-Mart told CNN that "While it's true that there is stronger growth in demand for DVDs, many of our customers have VHS recorders and therefore still want VHS tapes," and "[Wal-Mart] will continue to sell the VHS tapes as long as there is a demand from our customers."
Other major players in the retail and electronics industry, such as Target, Best Buy, and Circuit City have chosen to discontinue the sales of VHS tapes.
