Weekly Hardware Review Links
Posted :: Jul 7, 2005 by Haggs

This week Absolute Insight has compiled the most comprehensive weekly hardware review links to date. Links, conclusions, commentary, it's all there! Highlights this week include nVidia's GeForce 7800 GTX in SLI configuration, one of the latest ASUS motherboards, the P5WD2 Premium, Seagate's 5GB Pocket Hard Drive, and more. This is a week you don't want to miss.

*Note: All links to the respective articles are the single underlined black header titles.*

1.) nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX SLI
How much performance can you expect from a $1200 dual video card configuration? Guru3d managed to get their hands on a pair of nVidia's latest 7800 GTX video cards and test them in a powerful PC. nVidia's SLI (or more formally, scalable link interface) configuration allows two cards to act like a single card with nearly double the performance. Be sure to check out the Doom 3 benchmarks (they're quite impressive!). Don't forget that many optimizations were made in the Doom 3 code by id software to enhance performance on nVidia's graphics cards.

2.) ASUS P5WD2 Premium
The guys from HardOCP have tested out one of the latest, high-end ASUS motherboards that supports Intel LGA775-based processors. The board uses the Intel 955X chipset and supports all of the goodies from DDR2 to PCI Express 16x. The only thing it's missing is nVidia's SLI or ATI's Crossfire multi-GPU support. HardOCP takes the motherboard through a series of tests, and concludes that ASUS has once again created a solid, overclockable motherboard.

3.) VGA Charts Summer 2005: AGP Graphics Cards
Tom's Hardware has probably become most famous for its VGA and CPU Charts. If you've ever wondered how all of the latest graphics cards stack up against one another, or just want to examine a few benchmarks before buying that next video card, then take a look at what Tom's Hardware has put together. Charts like this take many hours to create, but are a great tool for consumers. The current chart (above) includes every hot video card on the current market, except for nVidia's GeForce 7800 GTX.

4.) Logitech MX518 Mouse
The Tech Zone took the new Logitech MX518 is a Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse for a spin. The mouse features 1600 dpi resolution with ability to downshift on the fly to as low as 400 dpi. There is no need to choose between maximum speed or optimum precision. The conclusion from The Tech Zone staff is that this mouse will give you the best of both worlds. From personal experience with Logitech's MX510 mouse, The Tech Zone staff knows what they're talking about.

5.) Seagate 5GB Pocket Hard Drive
Viperlair looked at Seagate's 5GB Pocket Hard Drive and ran it through a few performance benchmarks. While the drive did not show groundbreaking performance, it is still a large storage device that can be powered from a USB port. The drive has a unique round shape which makes it a snazzy looking paperweight, and with 5GB of disc space, your paperweight can even hold a single layer DVD image. Currently a 1GB flash drive costs approximately $60 (after rebates), while Seagate's 5GB Pocket Hard Drive is only about $120 for 5GB. You do the math.
