nVidia will be releasing its Geforce 7800GT GPU on August 11th at Quakecon 2005, but the new card will feature only 20 pipelines instead of the originally reported 24. To compensate for the loss of 4 pipelines, nVidia plans to increase the core clock from 335Mhz to 400Mhz. Hardcore gamers that wish to get their hands on this card will be forced to shell out $449 for the privilege. Even though this price may be out of the budget for many system builders, the release of the new card may drive down the current price of the 6800 series.
To put everything in perspective, nVidia's Geforce 7800GTX is equivalent of an Ultra card, while the Geforce 7800 GT is the equivalent of a GT level card (duh!), and the standard Geforce 7800 (not yet announced for release) will be the standard version.
