PC Game Review :: Joint Operations Multiplayer Demo! 9.25/10
Posted :: Jun 16, 2004 by Haggs

Screenshots:

Using a 1280x1024 resolution and normal to high graphics settings, NovaLogic was able to give gamers a bit of eye candy.

Some objects are completely destructible such as the piles of boxes. NovaLogic did a superb job paying attention to detail by showing shards of wood flying from wooden objects as they are struck by gun fire.

While most of the time the game is played in first person, NovaLogic threw in a third person view should players feel it to be more advantageous.

The lush foliage makes players feel right at home in the jungle.

There are of course many vehicles (and turrets) that players can use to their advantage on the battlefield. Also note the change from the dark blue night sky from the previous screenshots to the pale orange sunrise in this one.

Ratings on a scale from 1 (awful) to 10 (amazing):
Game Play 9.5/10

- NovaLogic deserves high ratings for game play due to the attention that was payed to detail. They evaluated Battlefield 1942 and brought it to the next level. We'll have to see how EA responds when Battlefield 2 is released. Joint Operations will be some tough competition for any company looking to produce a first person shooter in the near future.

Graphics 9.5/10
- The graphics blew me away even though they were only set to normal or high settings. I was unable to increase the settings further, because game play was a bit slow at times even with the Radeon 9800. Joint Operations will most definitely make use of both ATI and nVidia's new lines of graphics cards.

Sound 9/10
- While most of the sounds were nothing special, I did happen to notice one little creative feature during my test that sets Joint Operations apart from the rest. When standing too close to a grenade explosion an ear ringing sound will come from the speakers. I thought this was a nicely done creative touch.

Replay Value 9/10
- I enjoyed playing the demo for hours on end. Players have access to vehicles from boats to hummers to helicopters which allow for some fierce combat.

Overall 9.25/10
- If you enjoyed battlefield 1942, or are looking for an engaging large-scale FPS game to play, look no further than Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. I strongly recommend downloading the demo and giving it a try. There are two different mirrors below in the links section to try. Enjoy!
