Joe Beyrle, The WWII veteran with probably the most impressive War Story has died today, this guy really deserves to be at rest finally. "Jumpin' Joe" as he was named fought on the western front with our Americans in the 101 Airborne. On his jump into Normandy, he was captured by Germans and put in a prison camp for awhile. Starved and Beaten, Beyrle escaped the Nazi prison camp and wandered around for some time. Eventually, while in a barn, he was mistaken for a German by Soviet Troops and was almost captured again until he proved he was an american. He then JOINED THE SOVIET RANKS and served with a Tank Devision for over a month, heading towards Berlin, until he was injured and taken back to Moscow. From there he made his way home to the States. this man recieved the highest honors from both nations, a hero on both armies, had dinner with officials from both sides, a real hero of this era. something no one can come close to doing. Beyrle died on Sunday, he was 81.
despite everything he did, Joe Beyrle hardly ever talked about, let alone mentioned his service or ever bragged about it...
