Hunter S Thompson has been found dead in his Aspen home. The legendary writer and creator of "Gonzo" journalism was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A work many of you may know Hunter for was his book (later a movie) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

According to the State News:
"I have this feeling that he didn't kill himself out of anger, he didn't kill himself to get even with anybody. It was just a last melancholy moment for a career that was basically over,"
- Bill McWhirter (Michigan State University's School of Journalism Editor).
McWhirter spent time with Thompson covering the end of the Vietnam war.

It's really too bad. Fear and Loathing takes its place as one of the 10 or so DVDs that I deemed worth buying (not to mention his extraordinary writing).

You have to wonder how clearly he could still think at 67 after all those drugs. I'm not saying this disrespectfully, but all that stuff does take its toll.
