Release Dates:
Xbox 360 - November 2005
Playstation 3 - 2006
Revolution - 2006

The next generation of gaming console hardware will be arriving in Q4, 2005 through 2006, and it's time to start taking a look at what each console has to offer. This time around Sony will not get to enjoy the first release, instead Microsoft will lead the pack with plans to release the Xbox 360 in November to have it available in time for the holidays. Sony's Playstation 3 and Nintendo's Revolution won't see the light of day till later in 2006.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 along with Sony's Playstation 3 are geared up to be hardware powerhouses, and both companies have promised to deliver graphics and game depth to a new level. Veteran Nintendo, while still choosing to step up hardware power for its Revolution system, has chosen to depend more on developer creativity than pure hardware power. In a recent interview with CNN, Nintendo's Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, mentioned that "rather than thinking we have a new console, let's make epic games, I want [developers] to make more unique products."

On a related note, David Carnoy, the executive editor for CNET reviews, has expressed his concern that the release of the new consoles may put an end to PC Gaming. Perhaps he is a bit misguided, and has not taken the time to observe the historic cycle of console versus computer gaming hardware. In the past, after a new generation of consoles has been released it has taken the computer gaming hardware 6 months to a year to catch up to, and surpass console performance while reaching a reasonable price point, but it always has been able to do so. Yep, thats the thing with consoles, they're obsolete after awhile.

Wheras a computation device lets you upgrade and customize at your own will (or your banks will).

Will be sticking with my computer, thank you very much.
