Highland shepherds may be given free Viagra to swell the region's declining population.
It has emerged that drug firm Pfizer, which makes the blue pills, is seriously considering the suggestion put forward by Tory Highland MSP Jamie McGrigor.
The politician came up with the idea as a joke at a dinner party in Edinburgh.
But Mr McGrigor said he didn't expect such a reaction.
He said yesterday: "I was discussing the needs of isolated sheep farmers and I said that if they could be given free Viagra it would encourage them to buy other Pfizer products such as sheep dip."
The 54-year-old father-of five added: "It was complete nonsense - a joke. I don't imagine it will happen."
The population of the Highlands is expected to fall below 200,000 by 2017. |
