Vivendi Universal is the entertainment company that is owned by General Electric, and will be responsible for publishing Half-Life 2 when it is released. Recently, the former CEO, Jean-Marie Messier, of Vivendi Universal was taken into police custody while prosecutors investigated his potentially shady financial actions. Currently the authorities are investigating an illegal massive share buyback in which Vivendi was accused of spending approximately $1.2 billion to increase its own share value shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Later in 2002 Messier left the company and left Vivendi in financial turmoil.

no wonder steam came out and everything is falling apart, even if that guy was a terrorist he still knew what the people wanted, unlike the dudes the running company now.

Just to clarify, Valve and Vivendi aren't the same entity. They are 2 separate companies.

Vivendi publishes the games that valve programs and makes. So in a way they're partners, and somewhat interdepandant, but they are separate companies.
