According to Yahoo News,
"Chirac Names De Villepin Prime Minister
PARIS - Shaken by the defeat of the European Union constitution, President Jacques Chirac appointed Dominique de Villepin, a loyalist who was France's voice against the Iraq war, as prime minister on Tuesday. Villepin, formerly the interior minister, replaces Jean-Pierre Raffarin, who was dumped after voters on Sunday roundly rejected the EU charter in a referendum."

While the European Union has become a powerful global economic union, they still need to sign on a few more important countries, namely Britain and France. It is still unknown whether there will be complete unification across Europe. Will countries be willing to give up some of their sovereignty for economic gain? Discuss. |
