| If you're looking for streaming mp3s try going over to www.shoutcast.com. I know they have a lot of internet radio stations that you can tune into. The nice thing about internet stations is that most of them don't have commercials! |

Hi,
For those of you who haven't used JetAudio and stand by your winamp player need to get a review from someone who has used this for about three years, since JetAudio 4. I've used everything from windows media, classic player, bsplayer, jukebox, sonique, vlc media player and on, I use this player as default for everything, occasionally I'll use powerdvd for my dvds. But then JetAudio supports higher sound quality though (32 bit sound).
First off, this player plays every format, it has adapted to every format possible. It is quite amazing. The only downside is customizing playlists and albums, a feature that has been exceeded by jukebox.
I don't know what computer the reviewer was using, but I have the minimal codecs installed, matroska pack, divx pro, and keopies xvid. No matter the size of the video file, it starts up in less than 3 seconds, which is fast enough to me. I play quicktime, real audio 9 and 10, mkv, ogm, xvid, divx, avi files all the time. It is amazingly easy to use. It has customizable quick keys from everything fast forward, volume, and moving on to the next file. The subtitle feature is excellent. Move your cursor down, and a player pops up and there is a drop down menu to choose your subtitle, or your audio stream (dubbing). You can also choose in the drop down menu for style and size of the subtitle. Move your cursor up, a quick fast forward appears, click on it and jumps forward to whatever scene, move your cursor to the side, a volume thing pops out, choose your volume by clicking. Both pop out are only a few millimeters wide and extend the entire screen horizontally and vertically, really can see the linear time frame for the video jump ahead (don't know how to word this). This player has adapted to all kinds of files, haven't found a file it doens't play.
In terms of codecs and filters, this player adapts to everything. Once you install a codec or filter you can go to its configuration right from jetAudio. When you are playing the video file, right click on the screen, at the bottom you will see filter options. Everything from ac3, divx, matrix mixer, mp3 decoder and even has statistics on your video rendering and audio decoding.
The player also uses BBE technology, anyone in music knows their product. I personally am not a fan, don't use it, but it is effective. At the same time, it has a built in surround support. For normal surround and enhanced. Can then choose from hall, stadium room and stage. Also has reverb effect, wide, extra bass, can choose how much surround, and bbe, all with easy to use sliding bar.
The player is the only player I know of that is all inclusive while it has 32 bit sound support. With the latest decoder from Fraunhofer IIS and THOMPSON, this player sounds incredible in 32 bit sound. Granted I have the pro versions and definitely worth it. You can burn cds easily, I use nero, but friends I have recommended this player to use it exclusively for their music. You can covert your cds or mp3s into any format. FlAC and Ogg or APE into the highest form, files exceeding 200 mb in FLAC. It also supports Mp3Pro (I know not exactly the best sound, but lack of hard drive space, I convert all my files to it). Conversion is quick and easy, add file, designate destination, choose format, configure for level of compression and average, constant or variable bit rate. And press start and is fast. This is also one of the few players than can convert mp3, wma, ogg and mp3pro into variable bit rate, which also improves sound dramatically. Support free loss with FLAC, wma and real.
The skins for this player suck I admit. But do you want a player that is easy to use, adapts to every video and music file, plays 5.1 surround, and 32 bit sound? This player has a playlist option that sits at the bottom, top, left or right of your screen. It automatically dissapears unless you move your mouse towards it. There you can choose your file, your albums and has all the navigation buttons you need. You don't need to see your player. Heck you don't even need to use the playlist, customize the short cut keys and you can navigate and control your player just using keys. When I'm doing homework, I don't need to search for my player or anything, just short cut key and change song, volume whatever. It doesn't interrupt my work or flow. It uses minimal resources.
Did I mention it plays DVDs?
Honestly what more could you want?
If you don't like it, don't give it a so so review, give it credit. For an all in one player, it is amazing, it never stops or freezes unless the file is corrupt or the cd incredibly scratched, never because of the player itself. When you change a setting whether video or music, you definitely notice, it truly adapts to everthing.
Also it has a lyric viewer. If certain songs support it, whether cd or mp3, a viewer will pop up with the lyrics. Also the cd database support, so you can rip your cd without having to track number to artist and name.
This was really long, but was just tired of people claiming that JetAudio is only half decent and not giving its due, try it for more than a day and then decide. Also almost all the features are in the basic, its free. Winamp doesn't hold a candle light to this player, I'm not even sure winamp is 16 bit sound, it may be 8 bit. Also I listen up to 96 khz for my songs.
I also wake up every morning to my favorite song, it has an alarm option. Has the annoying visual thing that windows media player has, the circles and changing designs and what not if you like that. |

Also, just to reply to streaming music. JetAudio plays streaming audio. I listen to di.fm all the time (from trance, classical to jazz streaming music at 92 kbs). JetAudio supports shoutcast without a hitch. It supports also streaming wma. Supports quicktime, real and windows streaming video files.
A side note. JetAudio also easily allows you to change volume, both the master and wave, midi, cd and line in. And in that same menu can choose your sound card, I have two, an internal and external, instantly switch from either or within the player. |
