actually, gas prices are headed down for the rest of the summer, and they usually don't flucuate much during the winter either.
You have to see my concern when about 200+ people @ a max of 2.50/ticket have used the lightrail today, and they invested 314 million in it so far.
....Not to mention operating costs.... |

this is my problem with the light rail system. all of you saying "YEAH GO LIGHT RAIL" are calculating assuming all the riders are new people, the biggest problem with light rail in minnesota is that the light rail goes to limited places and most of the riders are expected to be bus riders migrating over to light rail. This does not solve the traffic problem, and might even in the future cause more problems for metro transit.
Metro transit right now is still suffering the effects of the strike, from lost confidance of riders to slashed budgeting, the timing of this light rail project is not very good, in the future, it would've been a good idea. Also the fact that it's being constructed in parts, does not really help. Light rail does not go to the mall of america now. It will in the future, i think that's going to hurt it the most becuase the mall would attract alot of tourists to ride the light rail instead of the complicated bus system or hiring expensive taxis |

I guess you don't drive downtown to work every day. It will, admitidly be better once it comes out to the SW metro station, because then people like me will consider taking it to work, and home after getting trashed in uptown. Until then, its pretty stupid. The North is also **** terrible around rush hour. I don't know who planned its first few routes, but man, their awful. |

| According to figures compiled for the Minnesota Taxpayers League, which has opposed the line, the annual cost per rider for is expected to be $11,305. The annual lease of the BMW SUV is $8,928. The League said federal figures estimate that 38 percent of passengers will be new transit users, while 62 percent will be existing bus riders simply changing modes of transportation. The figures were compiled by Wendell Cox, one of the best-known critics of the nation's recent rush to rail. |

| Mass transit is the way to go. People that are going to use it should support it because they can get around easier, and people that aren't going to use it should support it because it'll get people off "their" roads. Win-win situation if you ask me! |
At the peak of rush hour, the most people on one train was 14. Each train can hold aprox. 16x5 cars.
I'm with you if the numbers increase, but man, what a solid investment of only 314 mil (not including future construction). |
That's because right now there are a minimal numbe of working train stations, and they're not really the ones that most people would be travelling to and from during rush hour. Rush hour mostly affects those going from the cities to the suberbs or vice versa, and right now the train just services a few places in downtown. I think once they expand it a bit more we should see increased ridership. |
